Some time ago, when my daughter, Molly, and I lived in Renton, we had a pet cat named Bill (Bill was a girl). She was such a loving and gentle cat and we loved her very much.

Once when my daughter went to visit her friend who lived in Enumclaw, she took Bill with her. Bill loved to ride in the car. When they arrived in Enumclaw, Bill took off and we never saw her again. Molly and I were heartbroken!

Every day after school for two weeks, Molly would go out to Enumclaw and call for Bill. She even put up posters and signs hoping somebody would find her and return her to us.

Well, that didn’t happen. All this while Molly and I cried and prayed and prayed and cried. Eventually the pain became easier but we never stopped hoping to see Bill again.

At the time, I was working part-time at the old Albertson’s that used to be at the bottom of the Academy hill in Auburn. About 3 or 4 months after we lost Bill, I went to work one day at Albertson’s. We were so busy! I paid no attention to a lady customer who wheeled her great big order into my check stand.

After ringing up her groceries, she walked over to the bags of pet food and brought back a bag of cat food. She was telling me how she and her husband took in a stray cat but she felt kind of guilty because she knew the cat had been somebody’s pet. She knew because the cat had been spayed and was in good health. I remember telling her that animals are God’s creatures too and we have to take care of them. She paid for her groceries and left.

BOING!!! (A slap on the forehead!!!)

It finally dawned on me that she was talking about Bill. I prayed that very minute, “Thank you Jesus.” I knew in my heart that Jesus had sent that lady to me to let me know Bill was OK, she was loved and was in a good home. I never saw the lady again.
