Never Spoil

This morning I was contemplating honey, as I usually have a bit of it each day in my herbal tea.
It is one of my favorite things to add a bit of sweetness to things.
My father and I had a beekeeping hobby for a few years, and I really enjoyed watching the bees work. Most of all, I enjoyed harvesting the honey and the bounty and sweetness all year long.
Did you know that archaeologists have found pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are over 3,000 years old that are still perfectly edible?
Honey’s natural composition makes it resistant to bacteria and spoilage. It just doesn’t go bad. It may crystalize or get hard but after setting it in hot water for a time, it will liquefy again and be ready to eat.
As I contemplated honey this morning, I found myself humming the tune of the scripture song from Psalms 19. The chorus has these words straight from scripture.
More to be desired are they than gold
Yea, than much find gold;
Sweeter also than honey
And the honeycomb
As you read Psalms 19, you see David reflecting on God and all the wonderful attributes that God provides for us. He gives us a simple testimony of love that has the power to convert us. He is a good and righteous judge. He has a perfect law of relationships. This and much more is to be desired more than any gold, and it is certainly sweeter than honey.
